BACKSTORY
Heritage Farming In Somerset, Shire Horses #1
Somerset is home, I not only grew up here but it is where I learnt to be a photographer too.
I spent hundreds of hours on the historic Somerset Levels shooting taking notes and often failing but learning, it was a magical time and 37 years later Somerset still inspires me.
One very warm summer day back in 2006 I travelled to a historic vintage farming event.
Camera in hand I wandered around and took a few images of anything that might catch my attention.
As I walked I noticed this beautiful large open field with a gentle slope where various vintage tractors and Shire horse-drawn ploughing was being demonstrated.
I immediately saw that there were some wonderful images I could create of this slice of yesteryear.
The vintage machinery against the warm tones of the dry golden field and the vast blue summer sky with impressive summer clouds would provide a perfect romantic scene of a time gone by.
I recently re-discovered these images and created the collection here called Heritage Farming Old Days Old Ways showcasing a wonderful nostalgic era of farming that existed not just in Somerset but in other parts of the world.
SIZE | FRAME | PRINT GUIDE
I use a specialist fine art printer The Printspace which has labs located in London, Germany and the USA.
Printspace not only offers high-end art printing but is also an end-to-end carbon-neutral service.
Prints are all digitally signed in the bottom left corner.
They are created with beautiful Hahnemühle Photorag fine art paper which is widely used in the art world.
The paper combined with archival inks won’t fade when displayed in normal conditions indoors; colours will retain their brilliance for a lifetime which is estimated at circa 100 years.
The paper is 308 gsm weight with an off-white matt finish and the surface has minimal texture with a chalky smooth cotton feel which creates smooth colour gradients
