Not stock. Not AI. One photographer, 37 years, sharing his personal vision through the moments and stories behind every image.

The Colosseum, Rome, spring dawn. One of the most photographed buildings in the world — the challenge is making it your own. I rose before dawn, took a taxi, had it almost to myself. One image from that morning ran on the cover of National Geographic. 37 years.

Description

The warm Italian spring sunrise was incredible and was worth the early start as it rose perfectly behind the edge of this magnificent historic building

BACKSTORY

“Where Gladiators Once Woke”

Arriving in the hushed moments before dawn, I found the Colosseum standing in silent grandeur against the awakening sky. Despite being one of the world’s most photographed ancient monuments, there’s something magical about experiencing this architectural marvel in solitude, accompanied only by Rome’s ubiquitous cats and early morning street cleaners.

The spring sunrise proved perfectly positioned, its warm rays gradually illuminating the ancient arches and weathered stone. As the light spilled through the historic facade, it created an ethereal dialogue between past and present, each beam of light revealing centuries of stories etched in stone.

This tranquil moment, far from the usual crowds, allowed me to craft several reflective images of this magnificent structure. The peaceful solitude enabled a deeper connection with the space, resulting in a series that would later resonate far beyond my expectations – even gracing the cover of National Geographic.

This serene capture offers a fresh perspective on one of history’s most iconic structures, where morning light transforms familiar architecture into something newly discovered.

What’s The Difference Between A Canvas And A Limited Edition Print?

The canvas prints are open edition — produced on artist-grade cotton canvas with archival pigment inks. There is no limit on how many can be made. The limited edition prints are on Hahnemühle Photo Rag paper — a heavy cotton paper used in museum collections — with a strict edition cap. When the edition sells out, the image is permanently retired. Both use the same photographs. The difference is the material, the edition limit, and what that means for long-term ownership.
