Not stock. Not AI. One photographer, 37 years, sharing his personal vision through the moments and stories behind every image.

Pontikonisi — Mouse Island, Corfu. According to legend, Odysseus’s ship turned to stone here by Poseidon. I walked in along the beach at low tide, tripod in hand, as the sun rose over the distant mountains. 37 years. Published by National Geographic and TIME Magazine.

BACKSTORY

Tranquil Moments In Sacred Light – Holy Monastery of Panagia Vlacherna

I made sure to stay close to Pontikonisi during my Corfu visit – I’d been planning to photograph this spot for months. The location didn’t disappoint, and I found myself making multiple trips out there, catching it in different light at dawn and dusk.

The early morning sessions were something special. Getting up at 4:30 AM became routine, and honestly, those quiet hours before sunrise were worth every lost minute of sleep. Just me, the sound of gentle waves, and occasionally the distant bells from the monastery.

Watching the light slowly reveal the white walls of the church, with those incredible blue Ionian waters all around it – that’s when you understand why photographers chase these moments.

The waters around Pontikonisi are this incredible vibrant blue – the kind you think must be enhanced in postcards until you see it with your own eyes. The monastery itself is small and simple, but positioned perfectly on its tiny island. What made this shot work was patience – waiting for that exact moment when the light hit the white walls just right, creating this almost ethereal glow.

Legend has it that this tiny island was once Odysseus’s ship. After the hero’s long journey home from Troy, Poseidon – still angry about the blinding of his son, the cyclops Polyphemus – turned the Phaeacian ship that had safely delivered Odysseus to Ithaca into stone as it returned to Corfu. Whether you believe the myth or not, there’s something about standing here that makes the ancient stories feel alive.

Beyond the obvious beauty, there’s a stillness here that’s hard to find elsewhere. The monastery has been welcoming pilgrims and visitors for centuries, and you can feel that sense of sanctuary. Even with other tourists around, when you’re here early or late in the day, it feels like a place where time slows down.

What’s The Difference Between A Canvas And A Limited Edition Print?

The canvas prints are open edition — produced on artist-grade cotton canvas with archival pigment inks. There is no limit on how many can be made. The limited edition prints are on Hahnemühle Photo Rag paper — a heavy cotton paper used in museum collections — with a strict edition cap. When the edition sells out, the image is permanently retired. Both use the same photographs. The difference is the material, the edition limit, and what that means for long-term ownership.
