My colour workflow is calibrated from camera to print — however, every screen displays colour slightly differently. If you’re unsure about a tone before ordering, email [email protected].

Not stock. Not AI. One photographer, 37 years, sharing his personal vision through the moments and stories behind every image.

St Paul’s Gate, Rhodes old town, pre-sunrise. I’d shot this location before and wasn’t satisfied — so I came back. That brief window before dawn, what I call the Edge of Darkness, lasts minutes. After 37 years I still find it addictive.

Dawn At The Gate

Dawn At Gate-Mocks6

Seeing the dawn light transition across the horizon in tone and colour and how the sounds of the world around you all seem to slowly awaken at the same time is something magical.

BACKSTORY

Dawn At The Gate

I had visited St Pauls Gate in the old town of Rhodes on a previous trip to the island but wasn’t happy with the images I captured.

This visit like that one was also before sunrise and that gave me time to shoot this historic location illuminated by the warm ornate lights

perfectly balanced with the first hints of dawn reflected in the cool sky.

As with most trips out at this time of day, I had the place pretty much to myself.

There was the odd person clearing bins and sweeping streets a few partygoers staggering back to their hotels and of course, several obligatory Greek cats keeping me company.

I knew precisely one of the images and the composition I wanted but that could wait until just before sunrise.

In the meantime, I went and explored the area for other interesting images to create.

After all these years of shooting before dawn, I never tire of the experience.

Seeing the dawn light transition across the horizon in tone and colour and how the sounds of the world around you all seem to slowly awaken at the same time is something magical.

What’s The Difference Between A Canvas And A Limited Edition Print?

The canvas prints are open edition — produced on artist-grade cotton canvas with archival pigment inks. There is no limit on how many can be made. The limited edition prints are on Hahnemühle Photo Rag paper — a heavy cotton paper used in museum collections — with a strict edition cap. When the edition sells out, the image is permanently retired. Both use the same photographs. The difference is the material, the edition limit, and what that means for long-term ownership.
