Not stock. Not AI. One photographer, 37 years, sharing his personal vision through the moments and stories behind every image.

The Acropolis above Lindos — 3,000 years of continuous worship on this clifftop. Prehistoric peoples, Greek gods, Byzantine Christians, medieval knights — each left their mark on the same stones. Assembled from 9 separate frames with St Paul’s Bay below. 37 years.

Description

Where Ancient Prayers Meet Morning Light

Standing here in the gentle morning light, watching the same sun that has risen over these columns for millennia, I felt the weight of continuity. Even after the classical world faded, this remained a place of reverence. Byzantine Christians built their church among the ruins.

BACKSTORY

Where Ancient Prayers Meet Morning Light

This was one of several images I captured early one summer morning at the Acropolis above Lindos, Rhodes.

The columns of the temple of Athena Lindia have witnessed an extraordinary span of human history from its impressive viewpoint looking across the Mediterranean.

This sacred ground has been calling to worshippers since prehistoric times—long before the Greeks arrived, when ancient peoples felt the divine presence in this clifftop sanctuary.

It wasn’t just Athena who was honoured here. This hilltop hosted shrines to Zeus, Apollo, and Dionysus—a complete pantheon watching over the ancient city.

I decided for aesthetic reasons and my preference for a softer perspective to capture this image in around 9 frames and assemble it into the final image here. This meant my final vision of the image showing this historic temple and the incredible view of St Paul’s Bay below and the distant Mediterranean coast could all be shown just the way I wanted without compromise.

Standing here in the gentle morning light, watching the same sun that has risen over these columns for millennia, I felt the weight of continuity. Even after the classical world faded, this remained a place of reverence. Byzantine Christians built their church among the ruins.

Medieval knights constructed their fortress on these foundations, recognising the power inherent in this sacred ground, and you can easily see why.

A magical location that I desperately would love to visit and experience on one of my dawn shoots if it were open to the public.

What’s The Difference Between A Canvas And A Limited Edition Print?

The canvas prints are open edition — produced on artist-grade cotton canvas with archival pigment inks. There is no limit on how many can be made. The limited edition prints are on Hahnemühle Photo Rag paper — a heavy cotton paper used in museum collections — with a strict edition cap. When the edition sells out, the image is permanently retired. Both use the same photographs. The difference is the material, the edition limit, and what that means for long-term ownership.
