Dusk On The Grande Canal
Price range: £165.00 through £600.00

My colour workflow is calibrated from camera to print — however, every screen displays colour slightly differently. If you’re unsure about a tone before ordering, email [email protected].

Not stock. Not AI. One photographer, 37 years, sharing his personal vision through the moments and stories behind every image.

The Rialto Bridge, Venice, dusk. That brief 10 minutes between day and night — what I call the Edge of Darkness. A gondolier steering to his mooring, restaurants alive along the canal, the last breath of sunlight in the sky. 37 years.

Description

DUSK ON THE GRAND CANAL

Dusk Grand Canal Mocks-1

Venice is notorious for being tricky to navigate and it took a fair while for me and my wife to find our hotel and we were slightly concerned of going out later and getting lost in the dark (no Google maps back then).

BACKSTORY

DUSK ON THE GRAND CANAL

Venice is notorious for being tricky to navigate and it took a fair while for me and my wife to find our hotel and we were slightly concerned of going out later and getting lost in the dark (no Google maps back then).

After firmly locating our hotel in relationship to St Marks Square and Rialto Bridge we felt happier of not being lost in the back streets for an eternity.

This was one of two images that I captured one evening from the Rialto Bridge. It was my favourite time to shoot at what I call the edge of darkness.

A magical 10 minutes when its neither day or night but a slice of time in-between with the last breath of sun reflected in the sky and the artificial light of the city glows warmly.

I noticed the Gondolier gracefully steering his Gondola towards its mooring for the evening and kept shooting.

What you are hanging on your wall

Printed on Hahnemühle Photo Rag 308gsm, a heavy cotton paper made to archival standards. Not standard photo paper. A soft-textured, cotton-based surface that absorbs pigment ink at a depth that makes colours appear from within the print rather than sitting on top of it.

Each print is numbered as part of a strictly limited edition, signed, and includes a Certificate of Authenticity. When the edition sells out, it is closed for good — no further limited edition prints of this image will be made.

What’s The Difference Between A Canvas And A Limited Edition Print?

  • The canvas prints are open edition — there is no limit on how many can be made.
  • The limited edition prints are on Hahnemühle Photo Rag paper — a heavy cotton paper made to archival standards — with a strict edition cap (5, 10 or 15 depending on size).
  • When an edition sells out, it is closed for good. Some photographs are offered in both formats and some in one only. The difference is the material, the edition limit, and what that means for long-term ownership.
