BACKSTORY
MOORED FOR THE NIGHT
There is nothing more therapeutic to me than setting up the camera at sunset and watching the light almost disappear into what I call the edge of darkness. This period of the day (or is it night!) is magical to me and fits perfectly with my photographic vision of capturing aspirational quiet moments.
For around 12 years, I had a family holiday villa in Turkey and traveled there many times. During my visits, I fell in love with the stunning Turkish Gulet boats and photographed many over the years.
One balmy spring evening, I set out along the beach in Gumbet Bay near Bodrum with no real plan—just an urge to explore, knowing the wonderful light would present opportunities.
As I walked along the beachfront among the restaurants and bustling bars, I noticed a daybed in shallow water. Next to it was a gracefully floating Gulet, moored for the evening. I knew I had to capture this tranquil scene. However, the beach seating obstructed every viewpoint I tried.
Not one to lose a great image, I noticed a rooftop restaurant behind me that provided a perfect, uncluttered viewpoint. The great thing about Turkey is that the people are friendly and laid back. I turned on my charm and asked the guy at the desk if I could access the rooftop for five minutes to capture a picture. To my relief, he said no problem, and up the steps I went to hastily set up my tripod.
By the time I was set up, the sun had already set for about 10 minutes, but my composition was perfect. The gentle sound of the waves and the sight of the increasingly saturated sky casting a cool glow over the water created a sense of peace and tranquility.
The sight of the boat moored in the water, its sails furled and its decks empty, was both beautiful and peaceful. It served as a reminder that life is a journey and moments like this are precious and to be cherished.
This was a moment of stillness, reflection, and gratitude. I couldn’t help but feel thankful for the opportunity to be here, surrounded by natural beauty and experiencing the peace and quiet of this moment. This image brings back all the memories of that balmy, tranquil evening—the sounds of the restaurant and the sea slowly caressing the beach.

What’s The Difference Between A Canvas And A Limited Edition Print?
The canvas prints are open edition — produced on artist-grade cotton canvas with archival pigment inks. There is no limit on how many can be made. The limited edition prints are on Hahnemühle Photo Rag paper — a heavy cotton paper used in museum collections — with a strict edition cap. When the edition sells out, the image is permanently retired. Both use the same photographs. The difference is the material, the edition limit, and what that means for long-term ownership.
