This unique wooden stilted lighthouse is a well known landmark at the beach in Burnham On Sea in Somerset. A listed building dating back to 1832 the low lighthouse sits on the beach acting as a beacon for passing ships travelling up the Bristol Channel.
The Burnham area is my childhood home so I know the area well and have photographed this well known local landmark many times over the years. On this occasion I wanted to capture the cool tranquility of the location at dusk with the sand dunes and a gentle tide surrounding the lighthouse.
I timed my shoot to coincide with the tide and the setting sun. As the dusk fell and the tide continued to gently rise I waited for the optimum balance between the two. I eventually captured several frames once the light was the perfect luminosity turning the sea to a silky blend of soft cool tones.
It was a wonderful evening and I was totally immersed in the moment with the gentle relaxing sounds of the waves lapping onto the beach and the wonderful smell of the sea.
